Søren Lindgaard is new CFO of Energi Danmark. Commencing on 1 December, he brings solid experience both as CFO and from several directorships.

Today, Energi Danmark publishes its 2023 financial statements. Energi Danmark exits the financial year 2023 with a profit before tax of DKK 34 million. The financial statements also show that Energi Danmark has a financially sound core business and loyal customers.

Ole Joachim Jensen and Dorthe Rømer Frost are joining Energi Danmark's Management Team and will become part of the company's day-to-day management.

Energi Danmark has today settled the case with three former employees in the so-called bonus case. The case was settled by an agreement between the parties, according to which the three former employees will receive a smaller amount of compensation than originally claimed. At the same time, the former employees waive all previous claims against Energi Danmark.

Anne Broeng and Torben Möger Pedersen will become non-executive directors in the energy trading company Energi Danmark, which is owned by the two cooperative societies Andel and NRGi.

The Energi Danmark Group achieved a revenue of DKK 344.6bn in 2022 driven by high prices in the electricity and gas markets. Successful trading strategies outside the Nordic countries resulted in a high group result after tax of DKK 8.8bn. However, the Energi Danmark Group’s business area servicing customers within the Nordic countries incurred significant losses due to long-term contracts in the wind portfolio. With the good result, Energi Danmark has contributed considerably to society with corporate tax of DKK 2.5bn regarding 2022.

On Sunday 26 March, Energi Danmark notified the three key employees, who entered into a collective bonus agreement with the former managing director without the board's knowledge, that the agreement is invalid. Energi Danmark hoped to be able to enter into an agreement with the three key employees. Unfortunately, it has not been possible, and the employees have been suspended for the time being.

The European economy had barely managed to recover from the negative effects of the corona virus pandemic, before facing another huge challenge in 2022. The war in Ukraine, and its consequences for both the European and the global economy was of course the by far most important topic during the year, and even though Europe came through the first part of the year relatively undisturbed, worse times appear to be coming. In its latest economic forecast from last autumn, the European Commission emphasized that the economy is facing challenging times following a strong first half of 2022.

The Energi Danmark group achieved a revenue of DKK 119bn in 2021 driven by historical high spot, gas and forward prices on the electricity market. High financial costs due to collateral requirements and losses due to the structure in Energi Danmark’s wind portfolio resulted in an unsatisfactory group deficit after tax of DKK 286.5m. Due to a change of the valuation of sales contracts, income from 2021 in the amount of DKK 86.6m was moved back to 2020 which would otherwise have lowered the deficit to DKK 199.9m after tax. The Energi Danmark group realised a strong Q1 2022 with a result before tax of DKK 313.5m.

2021 was all about recovery after the coronavirus pandemic threw the global economy into a rapid recession in 2020. The European Commission estimates that the EU economy has grown by 5.0 % in 2021, compared to the decline of 5.9 % during the previous year. The expectation is that growth will continue in 2022. In its latest forecast, the Commission estimates a growth rate of 4.3 %, but once again the estimate is based on a very high level of uncertainty as a new mutation of the virus could potentially become a game changer.
